Club History

The Club was re-formed in 1972 after being in existence many years previously. The earliest known existence of the Club is from the 1909/10 season. A photograph has been handed to the Club by Mrs Jean Clayton, wife of our ex Secretary and Treasurer, Joe Clayton of an Oswaldtwistle St Mary's team from the 1910-11 season, the team having won the league and cup double in that season. The team are pictured left.

In 1973 a team was entered into the Fourth Division of the Accrington Combination with the Reserve Team formed the following year in 1974. Following a series of promotions the First team did the 'double' in the 1983-84 season winning both the Accrington Combination First Division Championship and the Calvert Cup.

In 2001 the First Team entered the East Lancashire Football League Second Division and the Club won the Chairman's Shield in the first season in the League. In 2002 the Junior Section was formed with Sam Griffin establishing a side at Under 8 age level.

2003 was a successful year for the club, the First Team finishing as Runners Up in the Second Division of the East Lancashire League and thereby gaining promotion to the First Division and the Reserve Team completing an identical feat in the Accrington Combination. The season also finished off with the Club being awarded Charter Standard status by the Football Association.

For the 2007/08 season the Reserve Team ended a long association with the Accrington and District Combination by entering the Reserve Division of the East Lancashire Football League. After a season out of the League, we will have a Reserve Team back in the Reserve Division for the 2011/12 season with an 'A' Team playing in the Accrington and District Football Combination.

In the 2008/09 season, the first team won the Second Division Championship of the East Lancashire Football League and were promoted to the First Division.

The Junior Section has continued to fluorish with teams added at various age levels to the extent that we have 9 junior teams in the 2011/12 season, including a newly formed Under 8 Team playing in the Accrington & District Junior League.
