MILL HILL RED 5

What a game , The Saints were up against the Lancashire champions and if the truth be told I did not hold much hope for us today , but I told the lads the only way we could win this game was by stopping Mill Hill from playing football and shut out the crosses. Ossy were really fired up for the game and started the stronger, putting Mill Hill under pressure on a very poor pitch. Unfortunately it was Mill Hill who took the lead heading in from a corner. In fact 4 out of their 5 goals came from corners and our inability to defend them properly . The lads did not take long to equalise. Joseph Shaw smashed home from 20 yards looping over the keeper. Mill Hill were shaken and we had chances to take the lead before we conceded two more weak goals from corners. The fighting Saints did not give up and Dillon Dickinson pulled a goal back scoring direct from a corner and just before half time Ryan Savage, MOTM, latched onto a through ball from Ellis Bickerstaff scooped the ball over the keeper and bundled the ball into the net to make the half time score 3-3 . This was an amazing first half and it was also the first time Mill Hill had conceded more than 1 goal in a match all season long.
The lads had a real belief in themselves now which was great to see and both teams had chances to take the lead but unfortunately for The Saints we just conceded too many corners and it was inevitably our down fall. The final score was 3-5 but I was very proud of the lads’ performance and hopefully we can take this into the last two games of the season.
MOTM Ryan Savage battled hard up front all day.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
