We took the lead when Olly Clare headed in a Craig Bradshaw free kick. We were well on top for most of the first half and had a few efforts at goal, on 30 minutes Liam Daly crossed a great ball into the box that was just too high for Olly Clare at the far post. It took Stacksteads 35 minutes to have a shot on goal which Dan Bury saved, low down to his left. With the first half drawing to a close they equalised when a ball into our box looked to have been handled by their forward but the referee waved play on and they scored. Straight from the kick off, Olly Clare broke through but their keeper saved his shot and a defender stopped his second effort. They broke away and the ball fell to their striker who shot over Dan Bury’s head from well outside the area. We were dumbfounded to go in at the break behind after dominating the first half. Ten minutes into the second half John Emmett battled hard to win the ball, broke away from their defender and slotted the ball past the keeper for an equalising goal for us. On the hour, Chris Rushton knocked in a cross that he miss hit and the ball sailed over the Stacksteads keeper and into the net to put us back in front. Within 2 minutes they equalised when one of their players lost his marker and headed in from a corner. With 20 minutes remaining they went ahead from another corner which was headed home. In the last 5 minutes, they scored again from yet another corner when their centre half headed towards goal, the ball took a deflection and Charlie Giddins was unlucky as his headed clearance hit the underside of the cross bar and went in. Overall we looked the better team but our inability to defend cost us dearly.
